Head Shot Buselli WEBSITE

Painter Ellen Buselli paints from life from her north light art studio in an old NYC brownstone built in 1890 which mirrors her love of the last-turn-of-the-century paintings and traditional art practices. Her careful observation of light and shadow, form, edges, values, and color evoke a calm classical order, and a sense of timelessness in her work. When not in her studio, she is painting plein air landscapes preferring to capture the landscape on location instead of working from photographs. For Buselli, painting from life is the ultimate challenge offering endless interpretations of what one sees and experiences. Some of her favorite influences have been the paintings of Emil Carlsen, Henri Fantin La Tour, John Singer Sargent, William Merritt Chase, Willard Metcalf, and Giorgio Morandi. After study at the Tyler School of Art in Rome, Italy, and Cornell University (BFA), Buselli moved to New York City and attended the Art Students League and Grand Central Atelier. Buselli’s paintings have been juried into many prestigious national exhibitions such as Oil Painters of America, American Impressionists Society, Art Renewal Center, Allied Artists of America, and the National Academy of Design. Her still life paintings have been Finalists numerous times in the Art Renewal Center Salons for the Still Life and the Fully From Life categories and have been included in the ARC Traveling Exhibition at Sotheby’s and MEAM Barcelona. In addition, her paintings have been Finalists in the Portrait Society of America Member Competition for Still Life and Plein Air Categories. Plein Air Magazine Salon Competition has awarded her Best Building and Best Floral.  Buselli’s paintings have also been awarded Best Still Life Award, Winsor & Newton Award of Excellence, and the Silver Brush Award from the Oil Painters of America. She has also collected recognition and awards from FASO Boldbrush,  American Women Artists, the Salmagundi Club, and Plein Air Painters of New Mexico. In addition to plein air, still-life, and floral painting, Buselli also paints portraits, pet portraits, and the figure. She is a Signature Member of Oil Painters of America, Master Signature Member of American Women Artists, Lifetime Member of the Art Students League, member of Portrait Society of America, American Impressionist Society, Plein Air Painters of New Mexico, and the Salmagundi Club. Her work has been featured in national magazines including International Artist (several major feature articles), American Artist (Cover), The Artist’s Magazine (Cover), American Art Collector, Western Art Collector, and Plein Air Magazine. She has shown her work in galleries and museums throughout the country and is in many private collections.
