Gwen Marcus

Gwen Marcus

Noted sculptor Gwen Marcus, FNSS has exhibited in numerous shows throughout the United States and is a part of many important collections throughout the world, including Taiwan, England, Australia and Switzerland. A child prodigy, Marcus began exhibiting her work in 1966 at the age of nine.

Critics have praised Marcus for her sensitivity and comprehension of the human form. Each figure evokes a distinct vision, a mysterious alchemy of sensuality and spirituality.  Every Marcus image is powerfully and painstakingly executed, and each figure demonstrates her demand for the highest degree of excellence and quality in her work.

Marcus talks about the strength and energy of her sculpture. "The eye never stays stagnant. In viewing my work, the observer is drawn in by the rhythm of the life force of the piece. Most of my figures are self-contained and introspective. Pieces are not formed on the surface, but rather they are pulled from their inner core."

Marcus has received many honors and commissions, among them the highly regarded Gold Medal of Honor (Allied Artists of America Inc.) A Four Time recipient of the Gold Medal of Honor (American Artist Professional League Inc.),  The Centennial Medal of Honor and (two-time recipient) of the Gold Medal of Honor, The Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club , Certificate of Merit (National Academy of Design); and the Gloria Medal (National Sculpture Society). Memberships include the American Medallic Sculpture Association, Fellow of The National Sculpture Society, Allied Artists of America, and the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club.
